The International Energy Agency (IEA) has recommended that South Korea establish a national industrial complex dedicated to SMR manufacturing and industrial demonstration. SMRs are a pillar of the next-generation energy mix, offering higher safety and advantages in decentralized power supply compared to large-scale nuclear plants. The IEA specifically suggested demonstrating clean hydrogen production linked with SMRs, which is seen as an opportunity to elevate Korea’s energy technology competitiveness to a global level for achieving carbon neutrality.
