Hyundai, Kia to Invest $816M in New Battery R&D Hub in Anseong

Major Investment: Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia announced a 1.2 trillion won ($816 million) investment to build their first battery-dedicated R&D facility, the ‘Future Mobility Battery Anseong Campus,’ scheduled for completion in 2026.

In-House Battery Development: The new hub will serve as a platform for establishing an end-to-end in-house development system covering the full battery lifecycle, from materials and cell manufacturing to module packaging and functional integration in vehicles.

Future Focus: This move signals a strong commitment to strengthening internal battery capabilities for EVs and EREVs, with plans to expand research into robotics and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). This is expected to intensify competition with, and prompt collaboration from, existing battery cell manufacturers.
